Why is Maleshwar Mahadev Mandir famous? in this information is given about the Maleshwar Mahadev temple located in Maharkalan village ahead of Samod.
The area around the Maleshwar Mahadev temple in Mahar Kala village on the other side of the mountain of Samod turns into a very beautiful place during the rainy season and waterfalls start flowing around the temple.
Due to these waterfalls, the view here becomes very captivating. There are four naturally formed ponds around this temple. It is said about these ponds that they remain filled with water all twelve months and they never become empty.
This place is said to be mythological, which is also mentioned in the Shiva Purana. It is said that this village used to be the Mahispuri or Mahismati city of King Sahastrabahu in the mythological times. For this reason, this temple was named Maleshwar Mahadev Temple.
Another reason for the name of this temple being Maleswar is that this temple is surrounded on three sides by the picturesque hills of Aravali which are known as Malayagiri.
It is said that this temple was built in 1101 by the family of Machedi Maharaj in which Swayambhu Linga is installed.
This Shivling is unique in the whole country because it rotates according to the speed of the sun. It is said that when the sun is in Uttarayan, this Shivling tilts towards the north direction and when the sun is in Dakshinayan, it tilts towards the south direction.
This temple was also demolished during the Mughal period during the time of Emperor Aurangzeb, as a proof of which the broken idol of Lord Vishnu sitting with Goddess Lakshmi on the bed of Sheshnag is still present.
